Mamaro wouldn't go quite so far as to say he was 'impressed' with Hibiki's strategy for collecting Pokemon (after all, the girl had sent him pretty thorough messages explaining a few of her favorite Pokemon in the past), he was definitely glad to see her taking things this seriously. He recalled the day when he left town on his own adventure, wishing that he had put more thought into his team back then. The first several months of his traveling were spent desperately attempting to make a shoddy team work after he'd filled up his team too quickly. He was stuck with the first six different Pokemon he'd caught, eventually needing to release a few of them after realizing his mistake.

Now, Mamoru was following his crush into the main lab of the Pokemon Research Center. The walls were lined with many large machines, some of them humming loudly, and some of them emitting soft beeping noises. There seemed to be a few Pokemon eggs within large glass containers, as well as some sort of experiments that had to do with healing potions. A few of the scientists waved at Hibiki, having come to recognize her after seeing her visit the place so often. In the center of the room, of course, was the main attraction: a wide desk with three metallic pedestals on it, each stand holding up a Pokeball. "Excited?" the professor asked as he approached the table with Hibiki, walking around it in order to face her from the other side. "I'm sure you know what happens next, but for formalities' sake, I'll go ahead and tell you..." he said, gesturing to each of the containers with a smile.

"We're fortunate enough to have a few able specimens at the lab, so you get to take your pick." the professor said, pointing to the first ball. "The grass type, Treecko." he said, then proceeding to the next choice. "Totodile, the water type." he said, listing off the available starter Pokemon. "And... Kanto's very own fire type, Charmander." he said with a wide smile, knowing just how popular Charmander was among new trainers. "I wish the lab had a Charmander when I started." Mamoru said with a laugh, looking up at Hibiki to see what she would pick. "Go ahead and choose, Hibiki." the professor said finally.

(( Figured I'd add a bit of variety by assuming that trainers aren't guaranteed to be able to pick from the three Kanto starters. ))
